Portratis of Manchac is inspired by the nature photography of Julia Sims.  Known for her beautiful images of Louisiana swamps and wildlife, Sims' images are musically brought to life in this three-movement work by John Crabtree.  From the haunting opening gestures, to the harmonious flight of wildlife in the second movement, to the melodic vestiges of maritime activity in the finale, a lyrical and expressive musical landscape is beautifully portrayed in this short work for string orchestra.
